Spün 365 - Day 10: Improving Spün Auth

I’m still working on Spün Auth, and Day 10 was mostly about making the UI feel better and working on some of the features around it.

Goodbye Iconoir 👋

I changed the default UI icons from Iconoir to Hugeicons today.

When I first discovered Iconoir, I thought it was perfect. I really liked the icons and thought they’d fit Spün’s UI perfectly.

But after actually using them in the interface, I had to admit something.

They just didn’t look that good on my UI. 😭

So I switched to Hugeicons.

And so far, so good.

Everything looks really good now, and I’m much happier with how the icons fit into the interface.

Sometimes you just have to admit that something you originally thought was perfect isn’t actually working.

Avatar Editing

I’m about to start working on the avatar editing feature.

The idea is that users will be able to edit their avatars whenever they want instead of being stuck with whatever they created during onboarding.

I’m also making avatar creation completely optional during onboarding.

If someone doesn’t want to go through all of that, they can just skip it and continue.

I don’t want onboarding to feel like a chore just because I decided that everyone needs an avatar. 😂

Spün Auth for Developers?

I’ve also been thinking about expanding Spün Auth beyond just being the authentication system for Spün’s own products.

Eventually, I’d like developers to be able to use it too.

The idea is pretty simple.

A developer registers their app and gets a client ID. They use that ID when calling Spün Auth, and Spün handles the rest.

Users would be able to authenticate with:

  • Google
  • GitHub
  • Discord
  • Email and Password

They could also connect all four authentication methods to a single account, so they can log in however they prefer.

And then there’s the avatar system.

Developers wouldn’t have to worry about building their own profile picture upload system or managing all of that themselves. Users could simply create their avatar through Spün Auth and the developer gets the user’s profile information.

It’s something I’d like to explore, but that’s a future concern.

Right now, I’m focused on getting Spün Auth finished and polished properly.

Day 10

I’m making progress, and that’s what matters.

The UI is looking much better, the icon system feels more fitting, and I’m getting closer to having the Avatar Builder completely sorted out.

Still plenty to do, but we’re getting there. 🤝

10 days down.

355 days remaining.
