What is Spün ?

Technology is everywhere.

But using it often feels harder than it should.

You need one service for authentication, another for databases, another for storage, another for APIs, another for analytics, another for deployment — and before you know it, a simple idea has become a maze of tools, subscriptions, dashboards, credentials, and documentation.

Spün exists to make that simpler.

So, what exactly is Spün?

Spün is a technology studio building software and infrastructure designed to make technology simpler, more accessible, and more seamless to use.

We build products that solve practical problems — from developer infrastructure to consumer-facing applications — while looking for ways to remove unnecessary complexity from the experience.

Our philosophy is simple:

Less complexity. More seamless technology.

We believe technology should work with people, not make people work around technology.

The idea behind the name

Spün comes from the idea of weaving.

A single thread might not seem like much. But when different threads are woven together, they become something much more useful.

That’s how we think about technology.

A product doesn’t have to exist in isolation. Infrastructure can power applications. Applications can create new opportunities for infrastructure. Tools can make other tools easier to build.

Everything can become another thread in the same fabric.

That’s Spün.

What does Spün build?

Spün isn’t limited to one type of product.

We’re interested in the layers that make modern technology possible — and the things people actually use on top of them.

That means building things such as:

  • Developer infrastructure
  • APIs and backend services
  • Authentication and identity systems
  • AI-powered tools
  • Consumer applications
  • Open-source software
  • Experiments that might eventually become products

Some of these products may stand completely on their own. Others may become infrastructure for something else. And that’s intentional.

We’re building an ecosystem where our products can work together rather than a collection of completely disconnected tools.

AI is part of the picture

AI is changing how software is built and how people interact with technology.

We’re interested in that shift — but Spün isn’t about putting an AI chatbot on everything just because we can.

AI should have a purpose. It should remove friction, automate unnecessary work, make interfaces easier to understand, or enable things that previously weren’t practical.

The goal isn’t AI everywhere. The goal is technology that feels more natural to use.

Open source matters

Where it makes sense, Spün will build in the open.

Some of our software will be open source because useful technology shouldn’t always have to live behind a paywall. Developers should be able to inspect it, learn from it, modify it, self-host it, and build on top of it.

At the same time, Spün will continue to provide hosted products and services for people who simply want things to work without managing the infrastructure themselves.

Both approaches have a place.

We’re building in public

Spün is still young.

That means there will be experiments that work, experiments that don’t, unexpected problems, weird ideas, technical rabbit holes, and probably a healthy number of moments where something breaks at the worst possible time.

But the Daily Spün is bigger than that series. It’s the record of Spün as it grows.

Where we’re going

We don’t have every product figured out yet. We don’t have every answer. And that’s okay.

The goal isn’t to predict exactly what technology will look like years from now. The goal is to keep building useful things, keep learning, and keep finding ways to make technology less complicated for the people using it.

One product at a time. One problem at a time. One thread at a time.
