Spün 365 - Day 2: Building the World Around Spün.

Day 2 of Spün 365 is done.

One thing became increasingly obvious today:

Building products is only one part of building Spün.

If the products are the things people interact with, then everything surrounding them — documentation, publishing, design systems, developer resources, and communication — is the infrastructure that holds the ecosystem together.

So today was largely about building that.

The Daily Spün

The biggest milestone today was getting The Daily Spün ready.

I never intended to go back to blogging, i always found it to be a task that i didn’t want to handle. My initial idea was to post my updates and progress on X and My WhatsApp Channel buh it turned out that X has a character limit so i can’t go into details when posting, which sucks terribly. So instead of having to deal with all that, i decided to start blogging again.

I spent time searching for a decent platform i could use, excluding ones i had used in the past. My requirements were fairly simple:

  • Completely free
  • Easy to use
  • Doesn’t require me to code
  • Let’s me use my custom domain
  • And allows me to customise freely.

I searched over and over again, platform after platform and just when u was about giving up, i found Masthead. Masthead is a completely free, open sourced platform for blogging and building small websites. The Dev built it because every other platform didn’t meet his requirements, just like me, and that alone was enough reason for me to give it a try.

I spent the entire day customising the theme to match Spün, once i finally achieved it, i set up my custom domain and i was extremely satisfied. The kind of satisfaction i get whenever i build something myself, buh i didn’t build this. Giving me full customisation was what sealed the deal for me, i no longer have to worry about my blog looking nothing like my brand.

To think i was so close to just ditching it and building a blog from scratch 😅.

After working through the branding and customization, I finally got the blog running under:

blog.byspun.xyz

The goal isn’t for this to become another generic company blog filled with carefully manufactured announcements.

I want it to document the journey.

Spün 365 is, by definition, a journey. There will be launches, experiments, failures, weird ideas, technical problems, decisions, discoveries, and probably a ridiculous amount of debugging.

I want there to be a record of all of it.

And today, that record officially began.

The first post, “What is Spün?”, is now live.

A problem with AI builders

First up, i just want to put it out there that I’m not a Frontend designer. I’ve always prioritised functionality over appearance. So i often use AI tools to build my UI designs.

Today i tried building the UI for the docs page of the Spün Media API

Every time I start a new Spün interface with an AI builder, I end up explaining the same things.

Typography. Spacing. Colors. Dark surfaces. Cards. Buttons. Borders. Interactions. The general visual language.

And somehow, despite explaining it all, the AI still manages to occasionally produce something that looks like it belongs to an entirely different organisation, it’s a common problem and it’s annoying everytime.

So instead of continuing to fight the same battle, I decided to solve the underlying problem.

I’m going to build a reusable Spün UI template.

The idea is simple: establish the visual and structural foundations once, then reuse them across future Spün products and infrastructure.

That means new projects don’t have to start from an empty canvas every time.

It also means the Spün ecosystem can actually look like an ecosystem.

Day 2 complete

Two days in, and I’m already seeing why documenting this for 365 days is going to be interesting.

The actual work isn’t always going to look impressive from the outside.

Sometimes “progress” is publishing a blog. Sometimes it’s creating a reusable template. Sometimes it’s simply making one decision that saves me from repeating the same work fifty times later.

Those things compound.

And that’s the whole point.

363 days remaining.

Keep building.
